The reality is that most things in our lives are out of our control. Life and death happen around us all the time and the only thing we can control is how we react to it. We all have a choice in how we respond. We can fight reality and struggle with our anger, grief or discontent or we can accept the way things are and move on.
One of my favorite views on acceptance comes from page 417 of the book, Alcoholics Anonymous. It reads:
"And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or situation—some fact of my life —unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in God’s world by mistake."
What will you choose today?
