Struggling with Addiction?

If you’re battling alcoholism or addiction, you may be struggling with how move forward and live a life in recovery.  As a Recovery Coach, I know from personal experience the challenges of achieving sobriety and, more importantly, staying sober and creating a life free of the need to use.

For some people, the idea of attending a meeting full of strangers is too unsettling, others think they can battle their addictions on their own, and still others simply cannot adapt to a life without their addiction and have given in to despair.  Regardless of the reason you are struggling with sobriety or the form your addiction takes, recovery coaching in the Twin Cities is a powerful option to build a solid foundation of recovery for the rest of your life.  With my help as a recovery coach with Personal Advocates, you can receive the personalized coaching and support that you need to turn your life around.

No matter how long you’ve been addicted and no matter what your addiction might be, if you think that you can control your addiction on your own, you’re wrong.  Recovering addicts understand that sobriety cannot be maintained without a long-term support system in place.  As a recovery coach in the Twin Cities, I can help you build the support system you need to maintain long-term sobriety and grow into the person you are meant to be.

Some addicts, especially those who have tried to fight addiction on their own and without a support system in place, believe that if they can only control their cravings, they will be able to stay sober.  Unfortunately, that is not the case.  Addiction is a progressive disease that only gets worse over time.  As an addict's life spins further out of control, the need for escape by using becomes more and more powerful, pulling the addict deeper into despair, and eventually, death.  Fortunately, addiction does not have to be a death sentence.  Millions of people do recover and live happy, healthy lives.  With regular addiction recovery coaching in the Twin Cities, you can overcome your addiction and build the support you need to live substance-free.

It’s important to realize that anybody can benefit from coaching, whether it's addiction recovery coaching or other forms of coaching for personal or professional development.  Coaching provides tools for living and isn’t intended to replace medical, mental health or chemical dependency treatment.  Unlike therapy, which focuses on past events and traumas, coaching focuses on the here and now and seeks to take the person you are today and transform you into someone who can live life at his or her fullest potential.  The ultimate goals of addiction recovery coaching is to help people stay free of their addictions, build support for transitioning to a life of recovery and to provide somebody experienced they can confide in and talk to for help living free from addiction.

Career Coaching: Dare to Dream

Career Coaching is more than helping a client create an effective resume or great social media pages.  Many clients seeking Career Coaching come to me because they dislike their current employment situation, but have no idea what they would like better.  Others have reached a point in their careers where money and prestige are no longer their goal and they seek more fulfillment from their job situation.  Still others love what they do, but are unhappy with the company or supervisor they work for.

Many people spend almost half their waking hours in a career or at a job that makes them unhappy, yet they don't know how to change their situation.  Often they make excuses like, "I need the money" or "I've worked too hard to get where I'm at to leave now."  As a result, they get "stuck" in a job they hate, causing stress and draining their energy.

As a Career Coach, my greatest challenge is helping clients realize they have choices.  They often can't see the costs of staying in a bad situation, like stress-related health problems, negative impacts on their family and personal life, anger and resentments or destructive behaviors like drinking and over-spending.  They also can't see the benefits of doing something they love, like increased self-esteem, personal fulfillment and a healthier, happier life.

If you are feeling stuck or struggling in a job/career that you dislike, here are a few questions to answer as you consider making a career change:
  • What makes you feel good?
  • What are you passionate about?
  • If you could do anything, what would it be?
  • What are your strengths?
  • What are your skills?
  • What additional skills do you need to be successful in your dream job?
  • How can you gain those skills?

Most people are not in a situation where they can just quit their job and do what they want to do, but with planning and a little patience, they can make the change.  I have clients who have made a career change and they are happier than they could have imagined.  I've gone through the process myself and I'm finally doing what I love … and so can you.  All it takes is courage, preparation and a solid transition plan.

Life Coach St. Paul, Minnesota

In very simple terms, a life coach is somebody who works with people to help them reach personal and / or professional goals. The benefits of working with a life coach, however, run much deeper than goal achievement. As a professional life coach in St. Paul, Minnesota I’ve helped a variety of clients from all walks of life become the best versions of themselves possible. My name is Coach Michael Vennerstrom, founder of Personal Advocates, and I have a life coaching program that’s proven, tested, and the results speak for themselves it works!

Contrary to what you might think, life coaching is not a form of therapy, and is not a replacement for mental health or medical treatment. Where therapy and mental health focus on past experiences and repairing / coping with the effects of past trauma, life coaching instead focuses on taking the person you are today and helping that person build a foundation of personal and professional success for the future. Some of the things that you will learn at a deep foundational level by working with me as your life coach in St. Paul include what actually motivates you at the deepest level, what truly makes you happy, and the unique mental paradigm you need to create to make your goals a reality.

Because of the way life coaching is designed, almost anybody can benefit from working with me on a regular basis. I offer my services as a life coach in St. Paul, MN both in person and by phone, email, video chat, etc. My affordable rates, make having a life coach from Personal Advocates available to nearly everyone. In addition to my certification in life coaching, I draw from my own past experiences battling grief, depression, addiction, and divorce to show you that there is rarely a challenge or experience so devastating that it prevents you from achieving everything you want to achieve in life.

If you’ve never worked with a life coach, you may be wondering exactly how the process works or what a session with a life coach looks like. The basic premise is that I, as your personal life coach in St. Paul, will lead you through a series of exercises and interview sessions to help you define exactly what you want out of your personal and / or professional life and then work with you to get you there. I’ll issue “assignments” designed to help you reach your goal(s) one step at a time, and will hold you accountable for completing those assignments.

This system is especially effective for people who feel as if they have trouble focusing on specific goals or who want a support system in place that they can lean on when they feel discouraged. With Personal Advocates, we recommend an initial coaching program of 6 months, covering 12 bi-weekly sessions that typically last for about an hour. Once they realize how effective my coaching sessions are, many clients extend their coaching agreements beyond the initial six months so they can reinforce previous goals and begin working toward new ones.
