Frequently Asked Questions
Is coaching right for me?
Yes. I believe everybody can benefit from coaching. Whether you are struggling or just want some perspective, coaching will help you focus your energy on achieving your ideal life. We all can get so wrapped up in the everyday details of our lives that we lose sight of our goals. Coaching will help you examine where you are and create small steps to get you moving forward again. Is coaching a form of therapy? Coaching is not intended to replace the services of a mental health or medical professional. Where therapy often focuses on problems, past trauma, family of origin or mental health issues, coaching focuses on the present and future to create a vision and action steps for future success. How does coaching work? Coaching is a process where I will lead you through a series of exercises and in-depth questions to help you define what you want and create a process to achieve it. Each step builds on the previous step and you are responsible for completing assignments and homework to achieve your goals. The process begins when you make a decision to improve your life. How much time does coaching take? It depends on what you are looking for. In most cases, my initial contract runs for a period of six months, usually covering 8 or 12 bi-weekly sessions. Other clients prefer to take things on a session by session basis. We will discuss your goals and reach agreement on a session plan that fits your needs and your budget during your free introductory session. Should you decide coaching is not for you after signing a contract, you may end your sessions at any time, however we do not offer refunds once your sessions have begun. Where do I meet with my coach? Your initial 90 minute session will be in person whenever possible, usually held in a coffee shop or other quiet environment. Most follow-up sessions are 50 minutes and typically are by phone or internet conference. How do I get started? I offer a free introductory session (usually 60 minutes) where we will discuss your goals and reasons for seeking coaching. If we both agree to proceed, a series of sessions are scheduled to identify your goals and the steps required to achieve it. If you desire, follow-up sessions, usually 30 minutes, can be scheduled to access your progress and adjust your plan if necessary. Coaching Conversations
